Description

A single-bevel preparation with a very narrow groove angle, designed for electroslag, electrogas, or narrow-gap processes. Only one member is prepared with the steep bevel.

In plain English

Same concept as the steep-flanked V, but only one plate is prepped -- the other stays square. Used in the same narrow-gap and electroslag applications but where one member is fixed or too thick to prep on both faces. Less common than the steep-flanked V, but you will see it on T-joint configurations in heavy fabrication.

Symbol position

Narrow half-V symbol on the reference line. Arrow indicates prepared member.

Size notation

Narrow groove angle, root gap, plate thickness.

Common uses

  • Electroslag/electrogas T-joints
  • Narrow-gap automated welding on one-side-access joints
  • Very thick plate single-member preparation
  • Heavy fabrication where one member is already positioned
