Description
A supplementary symbol (circle at the junction of the arrow and reference line) indicating that the weld extends completely around the joint. Used when a member is to be welded around its entire perimeter.
In plain English
A circle at the point where the arrow meets the reference line means 'weld all the way around'. If you are welding a pipe to a plate, a tube to a bracket, or a stiffener around a hole, this tells you to carry the weld around the full perimeter -- no stops, no gaps. Without this symbol, you might reasonably think the weld is only on the sides shown in the section view. Common on pipe-to-plate, nozzle-to-shell, and hollow section connections.
Symbol position
Circle placed at the junction (elbow) where the arrow line meets the reference line.
Size notation
No additional dimension for the all-round indicator itself. The weld type and size are specified by the main symbol.
Common uses
- Pipe or tube welded to a plate or flange
- Nozzle-to-shell connections on pressure vessels
- Hollow section truss node connections
- Gusset plates welded around their full perimeter
