Description
Fillet welds applied to both sides of a joint. The symbol shows triangles on both sides of the reference line. Both fillets may be the same size or different sizes depending on load requirements.
In plain English
Fillets on both sides of the T or lap joint. The symbol shows two triangles -- one above and one below the reference line. This is the standard approach for T-joints in structural steel where you need strength on both sides. The two fillets do not have to be the same size; a larger fillet might go on the loaded side. Double fillets are often specified as continuous but can also be intermittent if the loads allow it.
